STUDENTS RECOGNITION:
An awards assembly will be held bi-weekly to recognize students who have shown outstanding performance and at the end of the school year each student who has received a student recognition award will qualify to receive student of the year award.

ASSEMBLY:
Assemblies are times when the school community gathers to share information and give honor to outstanding student performance.

PROGRESS REPORTS:
Progress reports are mailed home every three weeks.  Please keep mailing addresses current in the school office.

GUIDANCE:
An Academic Advisor is available to meet with students to assist or answer any questions concerning prior transcripts, the academic standing at CEC, to help project a graduation date, and discuss post-high school plans.  A graduation plan will be completed and filed in each student’s record.

GPA/RANK:
While CEC calculates student grades, it does not formally rank students.  Students will receive grades based on the following grading scale:
  • A    100-90
  • B    89-80
  • C    79-70
  • F    69-below

TRANSCRIPTS:
Transcripts of a student’s scholastic achievement records and test scores may be obtained by written request.  Transcripts may take up to 10 days from the request date to receive.  Upon entering CEC, students are required to bring official transcripts showing credits and test scores from schools they have attended in the past.

academics.jpgTAKS:
All students will be tested accordingly with the state-mandated exam known as the TAKS.  At the Exit Level portion of the TAKS exam (11th and/or 12th grade), students who do not pass within the school calendar will have to retest during the summer.

TUTORING:
Tutoring will be available for students to conference with teachers and seek additional help in subject areas.  Tutoring will be offered Monday through Thursday from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

GRADUATION:
To receive a high school diploma, students must complete the required units of credit indicated by the Texas Education Agency AND pass all sections of the TAKS tests, depending on enrollment date.  Students may complete all required coursework and receive a certificate of completion until they pass all sections of the TAKS.  CEC offers Minimum and Recommended diplomas.  However, all incoming 9th grade students beginning the 2004-2005 school year at CEC will be required to follow the Recommended or Distinguished Tract.

  • Commencement Exercise: Graduation ceremonies are usually in May or June, the final month of the school year.  Graduating seniors will be asked to put a non-refundable fee toward the costs of graduation supplies.
  • Baccalaureate: A Baccalaureate ceremony precedes commencement exercise. This event is a unique service for graduating seniors during which time the CEC staff extrends its best wishes for success and happiness.
  • Valedictorian: CEC awards the graduating senior with the highest, overall grade average and at least 15 credits taken at CEC.
